Who is Dai Milan?

I am a New Orleans native, creator and muse, lover of the art of expression, a vessel and an orator, and an advocate for those most often overlooked.

My passion for creating, my educational background in Political Science (specifically the intersectionality of race and politics), my career as an educator, and my love for our often marginalized youth would become the perfect recipe for the young woman I am. Whether you know me as Daisha or Ms. Calliet or Dai Milan or DaiDaiTheArtist or just Dai, I stand before you a true testament of the multifacetedness that exists within our world.

In my 27 years, I have come to realize that with every day, comes new lessons and new opportunities to grow and strengthen our faith. That teenage girl that once wondered anxiously about what my future would hold is now a young woman excitedly embracing each day. Because now, by God’s Grace, not only have I self-published two anthologies; graduated from Louisiana State University; found healing in the pages of a journal and the threads of a canvas; started my own business registered in the State of Louisiana; dreamed, failed, and tried again; created and sold hundreds of original paintings and prints; designed my own merchandise and apparel; been contracted through my business DaiDaiTheArtist LLC; had my artwork commissioned internationally and by notable brands like Essence Festival of Culture; and served my community as an educator and mentor... most of all I've learned you can actually, honestly, and truly do anything you set your mind to. As my favorite scripture says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).

That is why whenever anyone asks, “who is Daisha Milan Calliet?”

I always ask them how much time they have before I answer.
